Alexander Onieal, bassoon

Dr. Alexander Onieal is second bassoonist with the Central Texas Philharmonic and maintains a large private studio in the Austin area. He has previously held positions with the New Mexico Philharmonic and Tallahassee Symphony. Alexander has performed with the New York Philharmonic, One Found Sound, Opera Southwest, Opera Tampa, Performance Santa Fe, and the symphonies of Austin, Lubbock, Midland-Odessa, Mid-Texas, San Antonio, Santa Fe, and Williamsburg. Alexander attended Florida State University, The Juilliard School, and the University of Texas at Austin and his primary teachers include Judith LeClair and Jeff Keesecker.

Alexander has toured with the Castleton Festival Orchestra in Muscat, Oman and on the West Coast of the United States with the New York Gilbert and Sullivan Players. As a chamber musician he has performed at Carnegie's Weill Recital Hall, Chatter Sunday, Juilliard ChamberFest, with the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival's educational ensemble, and at various venues across the country. He has attended numerous summer programs including the Crested Butte Music Festival, Castleton Festival, Bowdoin International Festival, Imani Winds Chamber Music Festival, Hidden Valley Music Seminars, and the Eastern Music Festival. In addition to his opportunities as a performer, Alexander is in demand as a clinician in and around the Austin area. When not performing or making reeds, he enjoys practicing yoga and hiking with his dog, Summer.
